Bio
Alexander was raised by his mother, father, brother, sister, and grandmother in Canton Ohio. Alexander’s father, Raymond, grew up on a local farm by Louisville, Ohio, went to college to become an engineer, graduated, and moved to New York City. Raymond came back from his successful adventure in New York to tend to his mother, and later started a small business. Alexander's mother and father settled in Canton and once Alexander was old enough to be useful, he started working for his father’s small business where he learned the value of a dollar and the importance of work ethic. Alexander’s mother was earning her PhD during his youth so Alexander was raised a little by each of his family members, whom each had there own unique take on the world. Alexander attended St. Michael's grade school, Pleasant View grade school, and Canton Central Catholic High School. Alexander traveled Europe several times and also went on a driving cross-country tour of the United States of America. He earned a BA in psychology and a BS in molecular genetics through attending the University of Rochester in Rochester New York and the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews Scotland.
After graduating from the University of Rochester in 2002, Alexander declined several job offers to return to Canton to bring to his hometown some of the vitality, community, and coffee he had enjoyed during his travels. Thus, in 2003, Alexander started Muggswigz Coffee & Tea co., which has gone on to win several industry awards, and has since watched downtown Canton blossom around it. Alexander has learned an immense amount about government and business buy starting and managing his company where he handles all financial, tax, payroll, and legal issues. In 2005 Alexander was appointed to the City Planning Commission of Canton Ohio by Mayer Janet Creighton, on which he has been serving since.
Politically, Alexander's views would be classified as Libertarian. He seeks to promote individual liberty and to shrink and specialize government. Government should keep focused and specialized on its core responsibilities so that it performs them better, reduces bureaucracy, reduces taxes, and allows businesses and non-profits to specialize in providing non-core governmental services and not have to compete against the legislative and taxing power of government. Promoting individual liberty could be simply stated as increasing the freedom and liberty of individuals by reducing burdensome laws and regulations placed on the people
Alex was born and raised in Ohio, leaving only to earn his college degrees and for the US Marine Corps. In 2003, Alex returned to his hometown to open a small coffeeshop in Downtown Canton without even enough money to buy and ice machine! A strong team and work ethic brought the business success as it has expanded to a coffee roasting and wholesale operation as well as four retail locations. Alex, his wife Morgan, and some of their seven children help to manage the company still. Alex, also a pilot, has volunteered on the boards of various non-profit and governmental organizations, bringing his evidence-based common sense mentality. Alex also directs a small property management company and bio-tech research lab. He still enjoys crafting coffee drinks for guests, working on various business and advocacy projects, dining with friends, primitive camping, farming with the dogs, and traveling with family.
